Outriders is the almost divisive game of 2021 to that degree

Outriders: Is it great or is it terrible? Depends who you ask. The loot shooter launched conclusion week and immediately divided the internet like Moses and the Red Sea. Connected one side are players—including a monumental number of Twitch streamers and YouTubers—praising Outriders for offering meaningful loot, frantic combat, and satisfying RPG progression. On the other side, others are lambasting it as deadening and derivative. Hell, it's even divided us at PC Gamer. In our review-in-progress Morgan says he'd already let uninstalled it if he wasn't reviewing it, simply I'm having a great time with IT.

Looking at Steam, Outriders players seem just as conflicted. It's currently sitting at a "mixed" military rating with just 61 percent of its 15,000 reviews recommending it. Not just what you'd debate a home run—and yet Outriders is as wel one of Steam's top games with all over 100,000 concurrent players right in real time. IT's been a age since I can remember a game that was this contentious.

"broken much ? managed to log into multiplayer 1 time out of 50 and got it to work , dont get me started on the micro studders ....... anthem 2.0 so far ....."

Fritter out

It's hard to talk broadly about Outriders because many players are unable to play due to issues that have persisted since launch. While information technology does sport co-op, Outriders still requires you to connect to its servers when you're playing alone. If that association drops, you're booted unstylish to the main menu. And for thousands of players—peculiarly on PC—Outriders' servers keep buckling, qualification IT impossible to play.

Developer Citizenry Can Fly has acknowledged the issues and is working on a solution, simply it's still upsetting to people who shelled out $60 for a game they can't reliably play. Justified if you can log in for a while, there's a laundry list of common complaints about performance issues and other pig out. "The amount of blazing bugs, frustrations, server issues and the bluff inability to enjoy the content with someone else is definitely non worthy the price," reads one of the most favorite Steamer reviews. "It needs a lot of fixing."

Outriders is definitely having an ugly launching, but it's also pretty raw for online games to launch without issues. Most prove to be temporary, and that leaves the final question: Launching woes aside, is Outriders any good?

Just about of Destiny 2's biggest streamers seem to think so. On Twitter, pennant Gladd wrote, "Outriders is real addicting once you start juicing up in end-game. I've successful my way through all but of the destruction-game now [and] I must say the end-game progression is quite an a ride."

Some other big streamers and YouTubers have been echoing that sentiment, including Broman, Gigz, and SkillUp. A lot of these tweets focus on Outriders' end game and combat and how IT lets players stylish their gear to create their abilities even more powerful.

But sift through the reviews on Steam clean, the Outriders subreddit, and social media and there's plenty who disagree. "The gunplay is good so wearisome," argues one of Steam's top negative reviews. "Every meeting runs on the dot the same, hit spacebar, left click happening guys, maybe use 1,2,3 once in a piece. Wholly the enemies are reskins with an occasional telegraphed grenade."

What's interesting about Outriders is the extent of the disagreement you'll see about these systems. "The abilities and classes give birth such an awe-inspiring force fantasy to them, and they just smel so curst good to use," says a distinct redditor. "I currently play the Trickster, and all single one of the abilities has a use and information technology's so refreshing swapping them in and out for whatsoever scenario I'm in."

Some people think the report sucks: "The story early on feels jolly interesting and introduces more or less unputdownable characters, but as it goes on information technology speedily starts devolving into what feels like a generic B movie that really fails at utilizing the premiss and characters."

Many think information technology's marvellous: "It's gloomful, it's suspect, information technology's tongue in impertinence, I didn't expect a easy lay opera, sol I'm good to a-ok. Where the devs exceeded expectations imo is the Lore and overall world building, only the news report is just some grumpy dude impermanent badass. And you know what? I dig that."

And extraordinary think it's so bad that it's actually great: "Outriders voice acting, cutscenes, and news report are comparable a B-rated straight to DVD picture. IT's indeed bad that it's actually genuine."

Aside from the crappy launching issues, information technology seems like there's nothing that players universally tall connected. I point this retired not to discredit any i opinion, but to foreground how remarkable and rare IT is for a game to water parting players so evenly. Reviews from other play outlets vibrate between praise and condemnation and, hell, even the Metacritic user score is split almost 50-50 'tween confirming and negative.

Ignoring its launch issues entirely, these at odds opinions make Outriders feel like a  risky game to buy if you're happening the fence. There's just much a wide sort of opinions thereon that it's hard to predict whether you'll care it without first playing it. It's relinquish happening Xbox through Game Pass, just us PC folks will have to administer $60 to play. There is a demonstrate you can try that's effectively just the prologue, merely I didn't start having entertaining with Outriders until a hardly a hours in, later on the intro is ended.

For now, though, Outriders feels same it will glucinium peerless of 2021's most argumentative games.

  • Outriders classes: Which path to choose
  • Outriders Trickster: Powerful early setups
  • Outriders Pyromancer: Fiery starter skills
  • Outriders Devastator: Top tank setups
  • Outriders Technomancer: Support your team.
